GLUCOSAMINE is found naturally in the body and is involved in producing cartilage, the firm cushions that pad the ends of bone in joints.

These pads become worn in peoplewho have OSTEOARTHRITIS and there is some scientific evidence that taking a supplement of 1500mg a day can help to preserve cartilage.

In some people it can also reduce ARTHRITIC pain as effectively as IBUPROFEN especially knee pain.

However the results of trials differ and some doctors are sceptical.

CHONDROITIN is also a natural substance that helps to give cartilage elasticity, so it can stretch when needed. Less research has been done on chondroitin but some studies show it to be beneficial for those with osteoarthritis in the hips and knees.

Most GLUCOSAMINE is extracted from shellfish, so it should be used with care in people who have shellfish allergy and it also contains sugar, so be careful if you are diabetic.

CHONDROITIN can have a slight blood-thinning action, so care should be taken by people on blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin or warfarin, or the herbal remedy gingo biloba.

However, in most people both substances are quite safe and side-effects are rare, though they can cause increased intestinal gas and loose stools.

Do be sure you buy a reliable brand and take enough.

DAILY DOSAGE.
